Filmtastic Baby!

So I have started to rediscover film....real film, not that junk you buy at WalMart. Hopefully I will be learning darkroom stuff too. The guys at Photographx here in town are going to teach me to develop my own. I guess I'll need to convert that extra basement bathroom to a darkroom. I'm sure hubby will be thrilled.

So I put some film stuff up on the site. The Holga images are my faves...its a weird thing, a Holga. I found this quote about the Holga online and it pretty much sums it up better than I could..."A Holga is a plastic 120 film camera that is cheap, cheap, cheap and built like it. Mine is held together with duct tape, both inside and out. Many people dismiss it as a cheap plastic toy camera, and many others taking fantastic images with it in spite of light leaks and considerable variation from camera to camera in lens quality, shutter speed, and f/stops. Think of the Holga as a rangefinder version of the Kodak Brownie and you won’t be too far off the mark."

Patrick and the Monkey

We went on Sunday to my friend Sheila's son's first birthday party. Sheila had bought this HUGE inflatable monkey at the party store.

So, as we were leaving, she gives this thing to my older son,Patrick, who is 4 years old.

Patrick announces that Monkey is his new friend. I go into his room to check him before I went to sleep Sunday night....Monkey is in bed with him (asleep on pillow, under blanket).

Monkey eats meals with us at the dinner table, complete with his own plate, with bananas, of course.

Monkey took a bath last night with Patrick and got into his PJs. Then Patrick and Monkey played bingo together. Patrick took a picture of Monkey after Monkey "won" at Bingo

Better than an invisible friend, but only barely....

I'm such a slacker

I know I havent been very good about updating here! i need to get more organized, i know its a big flaw in my character.

Anyway, in the last few weeks, my fmaily and I have all been super-sick, I went to chicago for a photo seminar, where I met some awesome people from all over the world. I also got to do a lot of street photography, so I will be posting some images from the trip here.

I also am expanding my studio (not in the physical sense). I am now taking referrals for Senior Graduation Photography. The stuff I ma doing isnt traditional and probably isnt for everyone, but thats cool. My kids stuff isnt for everyone either.

So, you can check out my new Seniors site at www.robichaudseniors.com if you have time....

Fairies

I'm so excited...I am holding a Limited Edition on March 25, 2006 in my new studio. Its Springtime Enchanted Fairies, and it is going to be great! I got the outfits from a seamstress in Australia and shot the promo card for it a few days ago.

I am hoping that enough people want to do it that I can do another one in the Fall. It is already half full, so I expect that it will sell out quickly.

I just love my job!!

I'm a little nervous....this was yesterday when I went to paint....its still kind of a mess. I've been assured that it will be clear by tomorrow...good thing I trust the source so much!

I did paint the wall though.

Image of the Day: January 30, 2006

I have been doing lots of maternity portraits lately. They are an element of my photography that I wish I did more of. There are not a ton of photographers in Kansas City that do really nice maternity and pregnancy photographs. I wish I had them from my own pregnancies. I suppose I could have another baby. HA HA HA.

Weird Thought

Everytime I go to the bank though the drive-thru, I get this almost-overwhelming urge to steal the canister from the tube, you know, the one you put your deposit into?? I cant explain it...someone will have to bail me out of jail one day...I wont be able to resist!

Todays image was taken by me in Aruba in Nov 2004. If you have never been there, go. Its fabulous. And a photographers paradise, I took about 1000 images in a week.

My Studio in Progress

So I am opening my very own studio in Lenexa, and I thought it might be fun to show the progress of the space. Today I stopped by and shot these pictures. Needless to say, there is a lot of work to be done there!

Sheila (owner of Retrophilia, www.retrophilia.com) who is renting me the space, says she is getting everyone's stuff out of there by February 1st, so here's hoping!

I cant wait to paint!

Welcome to my Blog!

Welcome to my own little space, a place for sharing my personal views on photography and life in general. I will try to make it interesting, fun and occasionally educational. I will feature photographs of my clients, my friends, my family and whatever else catches my eye from day to day.

I am a Portrait Photographer/Photographic Artist who specializes in Maternity, Newborns, Babies and Child photography in the Kansas City Metro Area. I work primarily in black and white, and on location, although my new studio is opening in February in Lenexa. I am so fortunate to be surrounded by wonderful clients and friends here in Kansas City. People who have made my business flourish and my art grow.

Thank you for coming along with me as I navigate my way through life, one day at a time.

Life is Art...enjoy it.
